Car parking at this end of the trail is limited so advise getting there early. Very pleasant 10min walk down past river to Blackwell cycle hire. Hadn't booked but no problem as bikes were available. Very friendly & helpful staff & good value for money if you intend to do the whole trail to Bakewell as you will need majority of the day (other places are by hour). Would use again and happily recommend to others. We ended up driving from Buxton to Blackwell car park, did look into buses but services appeared limited. AlpedHuez66

Had a great day cycling with the dogs thanks to Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire, they have a dog trailer they rent out so your dog can join in too! Was brilliant, staff super friendly and very helpful. They have a lot of good suggestions for where you can go on your little adventure too. Recommend booking in advance if you can theres only one dog specific trailer so far and it can get busy. Fantastic leisurely cycle ride on flat but still a satisfying workout. Loved the scenery and tunnels and Victorian infrastructure en route, was nice to envision how it would have been as a functioning railway.  Simon at the shop recommended a stop off mini hike up to a stunning view point which was much appreciated.  The bikes are really well looked after and great quality - the guys clearly work hard to maintain this.  Would definitely recommend this and we hope to be back someday. £15 for a bike for a day, was a good deal. Bike was all good, wheels ran true, brakes and gears worked, and the Mondale Trail was great, wonderful views, great history boards etc along the route and all fairly flat. Best thing of all...More Ian H

We stumbled across Blackwell Mill cycle hire a day earlier after walking in the wrong direction along the Monsal Trail, but I am certainly glad we did. Fantastic customer service- very warm and friendly staff who make great cups of tea and coffee, and are very knowledgeable about the area. Hired three adult bikes all day; the prices beat all the other cycle hire businesses on the Monsal Trail. The ride was very enjoyable- quite easy on the way there as there's a slight downhill incline. The way back was tougher, but it was a good challenge and we certainly felt like we'd achieved something at the end of it, and earned our cup of coffee! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They were very busy and it would have been understandable had they been ever so slightly stressed, especially as we turned up hoping for a double carriage for the little'uns despite having not booked. We were very lucky in that it just became available, but we should have booked ahead. Not only that, but our experience of cycling could be detailed on the back of a postage stamp. However, they were completely unflappable and we were made to feel completely at ease. They managed to see everyone promptly whilst providing an excellent level of service. Avidler

Definitely recommend visiting this idyllic location either to hire bikes or stop for a snack from their tuck shop. We had stopped at Blackwell Cycles for a snack and a drink. On setting off on our return journey the pedal on one of our bikes broke, so headed back to Blackwell Cycles to seek help, Simon was extremely helpful and repaired the bike even though it wasn't a hire bike, and wouldn't accept any payment. This has to be the best way to see Bakewell. We had excellent advice on the phone and were able to book our bikes for the next day. There is a big car park near by which only takes credit card payments. The easy 10 mins walk to the bike hire shop is lovely.All the staff were very friendly and helpful, they gave us great tips on the best places to stop and eat or stop for the best views. We got all the way into Bakewell, where there is a steep downhill into the town so take it steady and we managed to park and lock our bikes near Boots. Hired a bike today to go for a ride with my son. We brought my sons bike in the car and unfortunately the brake cable had detached . The guys at Blackwell sorted it for him at no cost and also gave us great info about the trail . We will be back soon and glad the dog is on the mend. Ali alisonpearce0
