E-Bike Day Out on Monsal Trail

By |2018-10-10T13:55:48+00:00October 10th, 2018|Testimonials|

Great little bike rental shop at the start of the trail. Walked along the Wye River from the car park. Friendly service - provided recommendations where to stop for food on the way. Booked an e-bike the night before. My wife really enjoyed the bike and its "pick-up" after only lightly pedaling - made the ride "effortless". The trail was busy with a few walkers "blocking" the trail - not following suggestions to keep to the left and allow cyclists to pass. Stopped at the Hassop Cycle Cafe for lunch. Beautiful scenery in late September sunshine! Notnab

Outstanding trail and hire shop

My wife and I (late 50's) rented bikes at Blackwell Mills and cycled to Chatsworth House and back. The bikes are excellent (my wife liked hers better than her bike back home) and the service is oustanding. The trail was quite empty first thing in the morning (9:45 am) but well used on our return (around 3:30 pm). We left the Monsal Trail at Hassop Station to brave the roads to Chatsworth House. The grounds of the house are amazing but my wife was unimpressed with cycling so close to so much fast traffic on narrow roads (so the faint of heart should remain on the Monsal Trail and not venture to Chatsworth). We enjoyed our day so much that we returned two days later and hired bikes again and went to Bakewell. The scenery is beautiful. The trail is wide and flat. The bike hire shop can't be beat: [...]

Great pathway/cycleway

Following a bit of research, Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire seemed a good choice...and it was. The bikes we got were suitable and the pathway was great, relatively flat (slight incline back from Bakewell). Lovely scenery along the way. My only complaint is the saddle soreness and achy muscles afterward...but that aside, the staff were very helpful! Emer135

Great bike hire, lovely service

What’s not to like? Had a good impression from when I phoned to book bikes and no answer on phone. When a company then takes time to callback to see if you wanted them that tells me they care! Super helpful proprietor when we picked up bikes and pointed out places worth stopping on the trail which was really helpful. Map provided and really good value a day at £15 per adult bike and £8.50 for a child. Phone and book and enjoy a great day!! BordersGirl

Visited last week on a lovely day. Beautiful trail on comfortable bikes with easy access to nearby villages. The staff are extremely friendly and could not be more helpful. Thoroughly recommended. Just remember that it's uphill on the return leg from Bakewell and allow extra time. Chris J

Great service and great views

Monsal trail is a great bike route for beginners (as I am) tunnels are fun and views are amazing. Hired 2 adults bikes from Blackwell mill, lady who served us gave us some great advice about the route and where to go. She also explained that the return is slightly uphill and we should do the sights and food on the way back to break it up which was very useful! Bikes were easy to use, helmet and and lock included. Would remcomned the trail and Blackwell for the hires :) sarah b

Exploring the Monsal Trail today from Miller's Dale toward Chee Dale on my ebike. A grey day more than relieved by fascinating aspects as I coasted along. So glad to chance upon Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire, not just for an overdue cuppa and millionaires slice. The brakes on my own bike were causing concern, having been heavily applied on 100% of the descent down Long Lane to the Trail. Problem? No problem now, having been expertly remedied by the proprietor. How much? Heartfelt thanks from a 75yr old adventurer. dnjmj
