THE BEST CYCLE HIRE PRICES ON THE MONSAL TRAIL

Situated at the START of the Magnificent Monsal Trail, in the Peak District National Park. The centre is approached by entering the Wye-Dale car park on the A6 (opposite the Topley Pike Quarry entrance), 8 miles north of Bakewell and 4 miles south of Buxton on the A6.

The Monsal trail is a disused railway line closed in 1968 and converted in 2010-2011 into a new traffic-free cycle track, allowing people to cycle from Blackwell Mill, Nr.Buxton to Bakewell. The eight and half mile trail follows the river Wye, taking you through several newly opened lit tunnels, between steep gorges, surrounding limestone hills and across the spectacular Monsal Dale viaduct making this an exceptional cycling experience.

Discover the Monsal Trail

Discover along the way the stepping stones and natural springs, lime-kilns and the old station at Millers Dale built in 1863 where the hustle and bustle of the past are but a distant memory. Spot the cotton mills of Litton and Cressbrook built in the 18th century, here the force of the river Wye was used to power the water wheels of the mills. Stop and look down to see the river Wye waterfall at water Cum-Jolly unseen from this view point for over forty years.

Signed. A joke surely, the viaducts, bridges etc are too frail. It would be a major civil engineering project 🤨

The plan is to put FREIGHT TRAINS onto the Monsal Trail to ship limestone from the quarry down south to construct the HS2 train line. This is not going to be a passenger for steam trains or any other passenger trains. The plan is to run the Freight trains 24 hours a day through the HEART of the Peak District National Park.

As a reinstatement of the whole line would include going through the Haddon Hall estate I wouldn’t have thought the Duke & Duchess of Rutland would be happy with freight services running through their land 24/7. I have heard that they would be happy to support the Heritage railway coming to/through their property as long as provision was made to supply a platform for visitors to stop at Haddon Hall, but that’s a far cry from full freight service.

By all means rebuild this railway line but not for HS2 supplies but for people from all over the country to enjoy another nostalgic railway line through the countryside. HS2 us like the pandemic. Nobody wants it just to save a bit if time to get to London and back. People will keep away from trains and public transport as more people will want to remain working from home. It will end up another white elephant and money pit giving a lot of our money to the consultants, contractors and shareholders and we the general public get nothing but our countryside ruined

Taking quarry traffic off the roads seems like a good idea to me. 🙂

I have signed this petition we cycled this amazing trail and had a amazing cup of coffee with you I’m writing to the government to the transport secretary This amazing trail must be saved

My hubby n I signed the paper one last year !

Is there a link to this plan

Where do I sign

Signed xx

There has been a petition to open this line going for years, it’s got 15,000 signatures. Everyone seems to have got their knickers in a twist about it. 1. The line was not featured as one being selected for a feasibility study by Schapps. 2. The local MP was not a signatory to any submission 3. Why would the Government invest money south of the “Red Wall” in a rock solid Conservative constituency? Change.org petitions are about as effective as a chocolate fire guard in front of a roaring fire in the Sahara Desert in August

What’s not to like?

Had a good impression from when I phoned to book bikes and no answer on phone. When a company then takes time to callback to see if you wanted them that tells me they care!

Super helpful proprietor when we picked up bikes and pointed out places worth stopping on the Monsal Trail which was really helpful. Map provided and really good value a day.

Phone and book and enjoy a great day!!

Perfectly situated at the beginning of the Monsal trail. Great bikes, we had manual and electric in our group. Mum is in her 70’s and found the electric motor really useful, the 17 mile round trip was easily manageable. All our needs were catered for bike-wise, we were even offered gloves to borrow (gets pretty chilly in the old railway tunnels)and a rucksack! Great experience and a really satisfying day.

Had a lovely cycle ride in Derbyshire. Bikes at Blackwell are well maintained and on one of the best trails in Derbyshire. Now used this place three times. Never let down. See you soon I hope.

Great little bike rental shop at the start of the Monsal trail. Walked along the Wye River from the car park. Friendly service – provided recommendations where to stop for food on the way. Booked an e-bike the night before. My wife really enjoyed the bike and its “pick-up” after only lightly pedaling – made the ride “effortless”. The trail was busy with a few walkers “blocking” the trail – not following suggestions to keep to the left and allow cyclists to pass. Stopped at the Hassop Cycle Cafe for lunch. Beautiful scenery in late September sunshine!
