We had a fantastic time on the Monsal Trail. We hired virtually new bikes - with comfortable seats - and spent the day seeing the sights, eating at Hassop Station, and viewing the Monsal Head Viaduct from the pub. Its a wonderful ride, and we would really recommend starting from this point. The staff are informative and knowledgeable, and the prices were more competitive than some of the other hire locations. We would thoroughly recommend all visitors to the Peak District to cycle the Monsal trail. We looked online for cycle hire and identified Blackwell Cycle Hire and we arrived as a party of 10 adults and children looking for cycle hire for all shapes and sizes. The staff were very efficient and friendly and ensured that each person was comfortable with their cycle ( in a couple of cases we changed selection with no issues). The cycle ride to Bakewell went easily – slightly down hill and with a tail wind. The staff advised us on toilet stops / cafe which were used and recommend. The return journey was more challenging but we all felt a great sense of achievement in reaching the destination in one piece. Just thought i would take this opportunity to say welcome back, its been a long four months without having the great pleasure of seeing you both and Dave the dog. It was lovely to walk upto the bike shop and be welcomed as though we had not been away, as normal the service was excellent and both me and Lorraine had a lovely day and even the weather was kind to us. Just when we thought the service could not get any better Simon showed us your new posh bike seats, WOW what a difference a seat can make to a few hours on a bike, riding along with beautiful scenery as though i was sitting on a comfy settee at home. We had a wonderful afternoon's cycling on Sunday to Bakewell and back and can highly recommend the experience (even though my likes were like jelly all evening!). Good bikes, stunning scenery and fabulous weather - what more could we have asked for? Was definitely a highlight of our long weekend in the Peaks. We thought the bike hire was really good value for money and wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to others. We hope to return ourselves at some point in the not too distant future. Great friendly and easy going service, including Dave, who was very helpful! We rented electric bikes - first time either of us had ridden them - and found them great value. We both have standard road bikes at home but don't use them nearly enough due to undulating lanes. The electric option has whetted our appetites and we're seriously considering them as more suitable to our requirements. Certainly reduces potential damage to ageing joints and allows more time to look at the scenery rather than bent double and staring at your knees! Sniffy about electric bikes? Don't be! They don't take over. They simply assist whilst leaving you still with some work to do. And anything that encourages demotivated cyclists like us to get out of the car has to be a good thing. From the car park to the end of the trail is beautiful scenery, The staff in the Cycle hire shop are very helpful and friendly and you can reserve your equipment by phone. The whole area just seems to bring out the best in people, I've never seen so many smiling faces or had so many greetings and words of encouragement. The ride itself is great for non-energetic novice riders, I've only ridden twice in 30 years and enjoyed the trail and felt fully able to complete it. For anyone considering whether they could manage the trail I would re-assure you that if I can do it then anyone can as I am a very un-sporty person. Hi Simon, Cheryl and Dave You may recall that you suggested that I contact you via your email rather than the website as it doesn't currently allow Reviews to be written due to some technical hitch. Whilst visiting my daughter in Hospital in the area, she suggested that I have a look at the Monsal Trail as it runs through beautiful countryside and is easy to find and readily accessible. How right she was! ....... and what a delight to find that not only could I Hire a bike to explore the length of the Trail (which I could not have done on foot in the time available), but the bikes were of a much superior quality to what I was expecting, and aided by the Gel seats were a joy to use. Hi I hired a bike on Wed 10 Oct and just wanted to thank you for your excellent service. Hat, gloves and lock all included for £12.50 - a real bargain. I had a wonderful day out cycling down to Bakewell and back. But importantly, I must give very special thanks again to the lady on reception who kindly dropped me off at Buxton station (I'd come by public transport) for my train, which left two mins later!!
