The cycle hire/cafe is perfectly situated at the start/finish of the stunning monsal trail, we found the staff extremely helpful when my wife was having problems with her personal cycle.

My boyfriend and I were cycling down the monsal trail today when his tyre got punctured. We were very lucky that we weren’t far from the Blackwell mill cycle shop and managed to walk there. The two men were extremely helpful - they basically saved the day! Doing everything they could to fix the tyre - which took quite a few attempts. Luckily they managed to patch it enough so that we could make it back to Bakewell. Thanks so much guys a great service xxx

Very knowledgeable staff who provided excellent advice re: cycling, the Monsal Trial and even the history of the local area. However, Dave was by far the biggest surprise, as he could be our dog Elsa's long lost brother...! #itsreallyaboutthedogs

Blackwell bike hire well located at the start of the Monsal Trail. Arrived at car park just before 9.30, ten minutes walk through scenic woodland setting to bike hire shop. Service was quick and friendly with helpful advice given. Good quality mountain bikes which were trouble free for the 18 mile round trip to Bakewell and back. Would recommend.

We were riding the Monsal Trail as a family from Bakewell and arrived at the cycle hire / cafe to stop for refreshment. As we rode down the steep hill one of the staff noticed one of our bikes didn't look quite right. He inquired as to where we bought it from and almost immediately added Halfords. He noticed that they had built the bike with the front forks the wrong way round which wouldn't allow the wheel to turn properly. Without any question he went to got some tools and fixed the problem. Simon and his partner went out of their way to help even though we weren't hiring from them. We cannot thank them enough for their attention and helpfulness

This is worth stopping and visiting on the monsal trail They are super friendly and helpful, really great service and knowledgeable about all sorts of things ! A great local resource

Our family with sons aged.16 and 12 all loved this experience. The staff at Blackwell Mill were incredibly welcoming and friendly and could not have helped more. We hired two adult bikes as the boys had brought their own but they were happy to pump up the boys tyres and lend us extra locks at no extra cost. The advice given was perfect (especially about the slight uphill return!) and we enjoyed the stunning scenery all the way to Bakewell and back. The tunnels are awesome! An experience not to miss.

We booked two bikes in advance, one of them being electric. The location is very easy to find. The parking fee is 4.75 for the entire day and you have to walk like 20 minutes, but the forest and the river are pretty nice and are worth the walk. We've been welcomed by the owner and after we paid and signed some papers we received the bikes, a map and some tips about the route. Personally I think the bikes were in a very good condition: good brakes, comfy saddle, good tires etc. If you aren't in a good shape I would definitely recommend the electrical bike. My partener has asthma and this is why I choose it and to be honest with you, I was struggling to keep up with her. Overall an amazing experience.

We arrived without having booked first, I would have tried the electric bikes but they are very popular so they recommend to book in advance, better to just book generally really. Staff so friendly, and Dave their dog greeted everyone who came in ! Lots of useful info given to us before we set off, bikes were a lovely smooth ride, comfy seats, helmets and locks included, I’ll also be recommending these guys in the guest book where we are staying.
