Luckily we found the leaflet for the Monsal trail and the Blackwell Mill Cycle hire in the rented accommodation we were staying at in Whiston. We gave them a call and booked the bikes. It is a 15 minute walk from the car park to the cycle centre, down a beautiful trail by a crystal clear river. We were quickly sized for our bikes and set on our way. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. There are lots of stations to stop at for refreshments and the views on the trail are stunning. Its just brilliant riding a bike without having to negotiate any traffic! Highly recommended.

Helpful supportive friendly staff . Given quick helpful information and set up with bikes, lock , helmets. Long time since I’d ridden so worried by number of walkers strung across the trail who ignored my bell . Beautiful views especially from the viaduct.Sadly on my return journey a couple with a dog did the same in a tunnel and going to the edge of the trail to miss the dog I fell off onto stones. With very bruised ribs and cut hands I walked to the next station stop .My partner cycled on , intending to return to help get my bike but but the owner came to pick the bike and me up. So kind and much appreciated. Great company!

I phoned to book the bikes and the lady was helpful & clearly explained how to find them. On the day, we drove to the Wyedale car park which is very small and was full (but £4.75 for the day if you can get in). Tried to find alternative parking on my phone but no signal. We did a 1000 point turn to get out of the car park (it's narrow) & went back up on to the main road. Almost opposite the road down to the car park is a lay-by which has a bus stop so couldn't park there but slightly further along the road was another large lay-by with no yellow lines or notices saying that you couldn't park there so we stayed there all day for free. Dropped down to this place, having ridden up from Bakewell. I real hidden gem. Nice people, great cup of tea and chocolate cookie. Just what the doctor ordered. Loved David (the dog)!!

Great way to spend an afternoon. Friendly staff and the map and tips where to stop off were a great help. The trial was quite busy, but the views were great & the going good, even for a couple 50 year olds who hadn’t been on a bike for years! Thanks

Great day out with family (4 adults, 2 young children). We hired 4 adult bikes and 2 trailers (one 2 wheeler for our 3 year old, one wee hoo single wheeler for our 4 year old) - staff were extremely courteous and helpful with lots of tips for stops along the trail. We pre booked which seemed necessary as it was busy at collection on the morning of our ride. All in all a great easy paced day out and highly recommend the team at Blackwell Mill. Will be back on our next trip to the Peak District

Was not aware of a 10-15 mins walk to cycle hire (not a problem flat and very pleasant). Steep hill to the start of the trail which had to push bike 50yd. Better to book bikes to avoid disappointment. Hired 2 bikes 1 electric assisted. View sights on return gives you more rest time due to slight incline on return. Stunning views even in wet weather. Need to ring bell to warn pedestrians most of the time. Paths are wide enough to pass. Staff lovely very friendly and good advice. Most enjoyable day out. Can ride to bakewell but need to exit the route by short distance but steep hill.

We would really recommend the Monsal Trail for a day out. Starting at Blackwell Mill, it makes a lovely ride to Bakewell and back, with plenty of views and places to stop. The cycle hire is perfectly located right next to the trail and we thought the hire was reasonably priced. The bikes were in good condition and the staff made sure we were all sorted before we left. A big attraction for us was being able to hire a dog trailer - this is a great idea if you like cycling but have a dog with you on holiday - unfortunately our dog did not take well to the trailer and refused to go in it. Super helpful staff quickly got us up and running at the venue. Some excellent tips and a useful map to assist our ride. The staff there were working hard as they were short staffed. So be patience with the guys trying to help customers. £4.75 for local authority parking all day from 0900-1800 hrs. We arrived mid August at 0900 and only three other cars in the car park. Payment is by contactless card payment.

Really helpful and friendly staff. Easy to book in advance and everything you need for a great day out with wonderful scenery along the trail. Highly recommended.
