Friendly and efficient, a great range of bikes, perfect location. Staff were informative about the route. You must book in advance.

We have electric bikes at home but decided it was easier to hire them here. Owner was very friendly on the phone and he and his wife were also very nice in person. The young man who showed us how to work the bikes was a bit perfunctory - for instance his demonstration of how the gear change worked took probably less than two seconds and in the end I had to work it out by trial and error. I had an electric bike, it was brilliant, very smooth. My husband had (by choice) a standard bike and nearly expired on the way back which is all uphill! The trail itself is beautiful and interesting and the map they give you at Blackwell’s is very useful. Would definitely do it again but hire two electric bikes this time!

Decided to hire bikes from here rather than the other bike hire centre, was able to get an electric bike, an adult bike and 2 children’s bike at around 9.45 with no booking. There is a short walk from the car park to the hire centre. No toilets, but not far from the next stop. Bikes were good and obviously well maintained and serviced. Staff friendly and knowledgeable.

Just wanted to say that although we didn't hire bikes this time, this lovely owner and his wife helped us out off a sticky situation. We had walked the Monsal Trail and ended up a bit stranded needing to get back to Bakewell. Helped us out by calling a local taxi guy they used, we waited their with a cuppa and had a nice chat with him and his lovely dog Dave. Very helpful, really pleasant and hearing his story about his business, would definitely recommend him for bike hire! Thanks for your help and next time, it's a bike hire from you!

Myself daughter and grandson hired bikes at the Blackwell Mill cycle hire today and biked along the old midland mainline known as the Monsal trail in Derbyshire. The scenery was magnificent and my twelve year old grandson really enjoyed the tunnels. We preferred the viaducts. The people at the cycle hire were very knowledgeable and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

We pre booked our bikes. This meant they were ready in this busy period. The staff were very friendly and explained the Monsal trail route and provided a map. The bikes were good (Dates and Saracen), and looked better than a lot on other bikes on the route. This is 2nd time we've hired from here, and would recommend them.

We booked two electric bikes a week before, really helpful on the phone and gave great directions on how to get there. The car park is £4.50 all day which I though was really reasonable , its about 15 minute walk to the Blackwell cycle ,lovey walk along the river. With the bike hire included a cycle helmet and a bike lock , so able to lock your bike up and do some exploring along the way. I hadn't rode a bike in 28 years, I was very apprehensive and the gentlemen could tell. Put my mind at ease , went through the bike with me , the gears, any problems call them , they can come out and help . Took the bike up the hill for me . Well its true what they say you never forget how to ride a bike and I had an amazing day. [...]

We booked bikes a couple of weeks in advance. The staff were friendly when I called two days before to bring the hire forward by a day due to the weather and were able to accommodate us the next day. Most of our bikes were fine except for one which we only realised the breaks were rubbing on the tyre part way into the journey to Bakewell. I would suggest checking your bike thoroughly before taking it for the day. The bike shop is approximately a 15 minute walk from a car park at the start of the trail, a lovely walk along the river to start and end the day. I felt that the shop could stay open later in the summer months as it closes at 5pm which feels early, 6pm would give people more time to enjoy a full day or make the most of an afternoon [...]

Turned up without booking and we managed to hire a couple of bikes! Exceptional service from all the staff, very friendly and helpful! Was given a map of the route and ventured to Bakewell! Bikes were all in very good condition, helmets and locks were provided too. Would highly recommend! Thanks
