Enjoyed a great ride today along the Monsal Trail with wife and kids, despite the damp weather, but this review is specifically about the team at Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire. We popped in yesterday towards the end of the day and decided to come back today to do the trip. On both occasions they were very accommodating in helping us find the right options for us to bring a 5 year old and a 1 year old along. Good range of options available and they sorted us out with all necessary safety precautions, right size bikes, helmets, pumps, bike locks etc all included in the price. We didn’t actually hire any bikes from here. I just wanted to write a review about the owners of this company. They are the most helpful and friendly people I have met in a long time. We we’re on holiday at a campsite not far from where Blackwell mill cycles is situated. We had decided to take a walk down a very steep hill towards the monsil trail, we had our dad with us who is 73 years old and suffers with COPD. Once we’d had a walk around near Blackwell my dad started feeling unwell and told us he couldn’t make it back up the hill! Great company. Straightforward service, and very reasonable. Chris and Ieuan, were very helpful and I felt like they were considerate of safety, checking, my son was on the best bike for him and changing it after a test ride to a bike that better suited him. Helmets were included and the price was for the day, so plenty of time to explore the Monsal Trail at our own pace.

First time visit and really enjoyed the day out, not only does the cycle route have the best scenery but also the service from the guys was second to none. They spent time explaining the routes and where the facilities were. Safe to say I won’t be needing to go to the gym the next week with the amount of calories I burnt! We saw this activity when researching our trip from South Africa. It exceeded our expectations. The staff at Blackwell cycle hire were slick, cheerful and opened up a whole day adventure we will savour. I would recommend tel booking ahead to secure your bikes. The trail itself is a engineering marvel. Add to that walkers, dogs, families, ramblers, cyclists, @ least 6 x tunnels : viaducts. it’s a very special place. The kids sprinted ahead. But with a one/ way track no one was worried. Chilled. We opted to walk into Bakewell ( in hindsight I would cruise down the hill on my bike and lock the bikes in the car park at the base of the hill - and walk up - as opposed to walking in both directions). Excellent service and very good bikes - just right for the trail. They gave good information about the various possible stops along the trail. I would definitely hire from them again.

I use this trail regularly with my pal using our own bikes & so have never needed to use Blackwell mill cycle hire but as we pass they always give a cheery morning wave whoever is in…. However this week I had a problem with my bike just as we approached their premises ( how lucky) They assisted me providing a spare part for the bike that solved my problem, huge relief for me but they refused all offers of payment, we were blown away with their attentiveness care and kindness Shout out to Yahan ( no idea how to spell…sorry) who also looked over my bike and gave me advice and Simon in attendance…. Restores your faith in people…. Not everyone is out to make a fast buck. No wonder this place has five star reviews they really care!!! Thanks so much guys!

Friendly helpful Service by people who are very skilled and knowledgeable. Great experience and customer service. Would 100% recommend. Beautiful place to have a bike ride, very safe and choice of 2 cafes for refreshment along the way. Cycle ride from Blackwell Mill to Bakewell along the Monsal trail is a Fantastic, fun thing to do.

I used to visit this trail regularly on foot. Unfortunately, I'm unable to walk long distances due to problem with my foot and therefore I decided to hire a bike. To my surprise, the bike was an excellent quality, easy to ride and very light. This possibility extended my ability to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise and improve my mental health. I enjoyed my day in the woods and will be definitely coming back for more. Thank you.
