We hired a couple of ebikes to ride the Monsal trail and they were superb. Really friendly staff told us the best places to stop for an ice cream, lunch or a drink; showed us how the ebikes work (you will never want to ride a normal bike again) and set is off on our way. We had a great day out and I can thought recommend hiring from Blackwell Mill. Not only is it well located right at the end of the trail, but they have the best prices too. Just £15 for a regular adults bike and £25 for an ebike. Adventura1405

We had such a great day out thanks to the team at Blackwell Mill cycle hire. Despite arriving later on a busy bank holiday with no booking, the friendly staff did everything they could to still accommodate us. This included both setting us up with bikes but also giving advice for things to do along the route. Looking forward to visiting again, would recommend to anyone - and I suggest pre-booking early if possible! Andrew B

I phoned up on the day as it was nice and sunny thinking I might have missed out, However to my surprise they had four bike available for me and my family. The bikes were great and the advice of the route was very good. Whilst there were no toilets available at the rental store, there were toilets after being on the bikes within ten minutes of leaving. The route itself is very easy to cycle on as it is either tarmac or compacted type 1 so it is a smooth ride. Don’t be put off by the fact it is in the Peak District as the route hardly has any steep hills. Lovely picturesque scenery and amazing service, I would recommend this for anyone! scott78521gregory

Recommended to me, and I'm happy to recommend to others. Great bikes, friendly service and a superb trail, packed with astonishing Victorian railway engineering and outstanding scenery. Allow 90 minutes for the outward run, and two hours for the return, which is all uphill. Not steep, by any means, but you'll certainly feel it! Hire for my ATB was £15 while my wife's electric bike (which she loved) was £25. Good value - and cheaper than the cycle hire place at Hassop station, further down the trail. Access is from the Peak District National Park's Topley Pike Quarry pay & display car park (£3.50), which is adjacent to the A6 and a bus route. From there, Blackwell Mill is a 10-minute walk along the Wye's wooded banks. Refreshments also available. Andrew G  

Third time cycling the Monsal Trail, and second time hiring from Blackwell Mill. Both times have been great. Rang ahead and booked the bikes and they were all ready for us when we got there. Friendly staff - could have been more helpful getting us set up, good prices and good bikes - well maintained and safe. Monsal Trail itself is a great day our, long straight cycle which our 7 year old managed (with a few pit stops) - wonderful changing scenery the whole way and café to aim for at each end. Getting to Blackwell is a bit of a trek (10-15 minutes) from the car-park so give yourself plenty of time - but all part of the experience. See you next year! AMcD1

Hired an ebike and a mountain bike from here. Everything was explained really well including places to stop and eat / drink. Booked the bikes the previous day as the weather was going to be good, just as well as they were busy. The bikes were great to ride and well maintained and we would thoroughly recommend hiring an ebike. Great value for money with professional and friendly service. Martin S

This cycle hire is run by a lovely couple and their very lovely dog, Dave. It is situated at the start of the Monsal Trail, which is an 8.5 mile route along an old railway line with really great views of the Peak District. The bikes we were given were great quality and well matched to our size, and good value too - £13.50 for an adult bike. We were given a map and told where we could stop for food and drink along the route and the best way to get into Bakewell at the other end of the route. All in all, would recommend. Ed S

Had a lovely day cycling the Monsal trail. Actually was more fun cycling there (slightly downhill) than back, but that’s more down to my lack of fitness! Fab service with a smile from Blackwell Mill - we’ve been a few times now and never pre-booked, just turn up on the day. Nice cycle with tunnels and the kids always enjoy it.
