My partner and I spent a lovely Easter Weekend Break in the Peak District. On The Saturday we had decided to hire a bike to go along the Monsal Trail - it was fantastic. We had pre-booked over the phone (to which I am glad we had as it was very busy). We had to park the car about a 10 minute walk away - which was a very picturesque walk to the cycle hire. On arrival the staff were extremely friendly and informative - our bikes were all ready and we were provided with a very detailed map of places of interest along the route including places where we could stop off for refreshments. My son is absolutely train mad so we knew we had to take him on The Monsal Trail while we were on holiday. We chose Blackwell Mill to hire bikes from as it’s a set price for the whole day which was perfect as we weren’t sure how long it would take 2 children and their unfit parents to complete! The bikes we had were excellent, very comfortable to ride (no one complained of “bike bum” thanks to the padded gel seats) and included locks so you could park the bikes up and explore some of the walks, pubs etc off the trail. We stayed locally and wanted to do some cycling during our Spring break. Blackwell Mill cycle hire were the best price on the Monsal trail. Starting the opposite end of this cycle frail along the old railway track. The gradients are gentle and Bakewell is around 1 1/2 hours. Which makes a good halfway house. We did this on Monday which turned out to be market day. So plenty of treats over lunch. Slightly longer on the way home as it was uphill. The route takes you through illuminated tunnels and over viaducts through the stunning Derbyshire countryside. This has to be my favourite day of the holiday. My wife and I hired bikes on the Easter Saturday for a trip along the monsal trail. We booked the bikes via the phone the day before and when we arrived on the Saturday morning they were out waiting for us. We filled in the hire form and paid our money straight away, we were offered helmets but we had brought our own. We were shown to our bikes and the hight of the seat and handle bars were altered to suit our needs. We were given tips for our trip and off we went. Perfect way to explore the Monsal Trail. Only £37 for 2 adults and a tag-along for whole day, Inc helmets and bike lock. Staff couldn't be more helpful and get the bike set up and ready for you. Bikes are good. Sturdy, 24 gear, everything works perfectly. I prefer it to the one at Hassop which can get a bit hectic. Things you should know: 1) It's a 10 min walk from the car park to the bike hire, but it's through a beautiful gorge and we saw Dipper birds playing in the water on the way back. Car park is £4.75 all day and is card only. 2) There are no toilets there, but Miller's Dale station is only 5 mins down the trail and has cafe and toilets. 3) The hardest bit is pushing your bike up the steep slope before you start. Excellent, friendly service. Good quality bikes for both the adults and kids. Reasonable prices at £15 for the adult bikes and £8.50 for the kids’. Locks, bike hats and good advice provided for free. Would highly recommend. NickT2319

My friend and I hired 2 Electric bikes for the day. Excellent value £25 each also supplied lock and helmets free of charge. Friendly and informative staff. Travelled the whole Monsal trail and back. Great company. Would of liked paniers to put things in. Geonik, Nottingham

My partner and I each rented a bicycle for the whole day (£15 each) at great value for the Monsal Trail. The staff there were very friendly and informative and offer a small selection of snacks. Strongly recommend. Luca C, London

A small group of us had cycled along the Monsal trail from Bakewell to the end of the route and stopped at Blackwell Mill cycle hire shack. Its slightly off the trail but can be seen from the track down a steep hill. Worth taking the bike down the chap fixes maintains bikes and makes tea for visitors I like this sort of spot its unexpected unpretentious and good quality. A good mug of hot builders tea taken in the sun on picnic bench outside his characteristic shack swallowed down with fresh tasty scones and butter. Some good chat about bike equipment and info on trails etc to boot. Needs another visit on another day. Fantastic value day rate inclusive of helmet and bike lock for peace of mind and a comfortable well maintained bike. Highly recommend starting this end if hiring a bike to take the trail.
