I hired an electric bike, the first time using one, as I thought the Monsal Trail might be a bit far for me, as I’m not a regular cyclist. The bike hire was advertised at the campsite I was staying at, and I’m so glad I tried it. I had a brilliant day! The trail is flat and well maintained, the scenery is just stunning, and the tunnels are great. It’s worth locking the bike to the Monsal viaduct to walk down to the river & up to Monsal Head. I had a nice lunch at Hassop Station. A helmet & lock were provided, and clear instructions were given on how to use the bike. Located in the best position to cycle the Monsal Trail, the business has a great range of bikes. Great, friendly service, bike fitting and briefing before. The bikes were in great condition and just the job for the trail down into Bakewell and back again. Thoroughly recommended.

Many thanks to the helpful, friendly team at Blackwell Mill Cycle Centre - whilst cycling the Monsal Trail earlier this week, the stem seat post bolt on my bike snapped - I called in and they were more than happy to replace the bolt and gave me a spare bolt - just in case - all free of charge. Thanks again for saving the day and allowing me to complete the trail - your assistance was much appreciated!

Absolutely blew my mind! This place is full of the adventures the soul requires. Perfectly serviced bikes with a well old solid staff taking care of all of your requirements to the tea! The trail is invigorating, with lots of places to stop and get whatever it was I needed. Filled with fish along the river and birds that prey. I didn't think I could do it but I did! It's changed my life. Just the beauty set me back I nearly cried while deep in though on my cycle. Thoroughly recommend Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire. The staff here will look after you and do everything they can to make sure you have a great day out. Very knowledgeable, with a friendly service. The shop is positioned perfectly to get straight onto the Monsal Trail and start enjoying the amazing Peak District views, tunnels, and history. On the day I visited Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire I had been using my own bike on the Monsal Trail. I had a severe mechanical break, but due to the staff at Blackwell Mill, I was rescued and back on the trail smiling and having fun in no time at all. Above and beyond support 5*. I rang earlier in the week and spoke to Julie to book, who was amazing and super friendly. She answered all of our concerns, explained the route and gave us lots of handy tips re cafes, car parking, what to bring, etc... We arrived, and the bikes were ready to go, sized up, clean and we had everything we needed, took no time at all to get set up and on our way and easy to hand the bikes back in at the end! 💯 I recommend hiring bikes and doing it! Couldn't really ask for any more from a bike rental place. Good prices (slightly cheaper than the other place on the trail); we took out four bikes for 7/8 hours and around 15/20 miles and had no issues at all. The bikes were in the best condition of any rented bikes I've ever seen; they looked brand new and spotless. All the staff were helpful, pointed out places to stop on the route, and offered any help possible. Very scenic route – just watch out for dogs and unaware owners!

Can't recommend Blackwell Mill cycle hire enough. Paul came to our rescue, an angel in disguise. We had just started the Monsal Trail bike ride and the chain on my disabled son's tandem got jammed. We didn't hire any bikes from the company, but after I struggled trying to fix it on my own for a while, Paul came to our rescue. He went above and beyond to get us sorted (wheel and chain came off). I offered to pay but he declined. He was a good Samaritan. I'm a retired teacher and was impressed how staff talked to and inspired a party of school children for a ride. If I was needing to hire bikes for my family or school party I wouldn't hesitate. 5 stars from me.
